About this grant
The Casual Workers Advice Office was established in 2011 to give free legal advice to workers who have been dismissed or face other labor violations by their employers in South Africa. Past support assisted the grantee to successfully advocate for the inclusion of precarious workers as permanent employees with benefits; establish the Simunye Workers Forum, which meets every fortnight to discuss rights and responsibilities; and establish an in-house legal clinic staffed by an attorney to assist with rights violations. Ongoing support will allow the grantee to continue empowering precarious workers to exercise their rights and improve the quality of their lives, through organized meetings, research, education and legal assistance.
