About this grant

The project goal is to advance the nonprofit sector’s policy development and advocacy capacity. The Nonprofit Quarterly, whose mission is to promote active democracy and a thriving civil society, is one of the leading three publications serving the nonprofit sector in the United States. The Nonprofit Quarterly aims to build a practice to elucidate policy options and positions in a manner that addresses not only institutional perspectives, but those of the communities served by nonprofits and civil society more broadly. Specific activities include: 1)investigation of consequences of policy proposals affecting nonprofits and philanthropy; 2)organizing a policy committee dedicated to the best interests of civil society and communities; 3) commissioning research and white papers on priority policy positions; 4) dedicating senior editor time to vet and frame policy positions; 5) advancing ongoing dialogue on critical policy issues; and 6) developing new dissemination methods for this content. The Nonprofit Quarterly was launched as a national journal in late 1999 as a publication of Third Sector New England and in 2006 spun off into an independent publication.
