About this grant
The program goal is to ensure accelerated implementation of access to justice goals under Sustainable Development Goal 16. The Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, a program of New York University, is a multi-stakeholder platform, convened by the governments of Brazil, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, and the New York University’s Center on International Cooperation. In 2018-19, through its Task Force on Justice, the grantee brought together government and civil society justice actors in a series of international convenings to advance a people-centered justice agenda. The grantee produced a series of background research reports outlining justice data collection strategies, pathways to justice reform, and cost for justice action. These culminated in the release of the Justice for All report in May 2019, which outlined strategies for addressing the “justice gap”—the five billion people worldwide without meaningful access to justice. In 2020-21, the grantee will build on this activity in three priority areas: working with national governments to accelerate implementation of Access to Justice strategies; engaging international and multi-lateral institutions and cross-sectoral partnerships to advance justice; and fostering an effective campaign for justice at international, national, and local levels.
