About this grant
The project goal is to increase and strengthen access to justice for people living in rural communities and under tribal authorities in Malawi. To this end, the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe will use a human rights and constitutional approach to expand its access to justice program to people living in rural communities in Malawi. Key interventions over the two-year period will include capacity building of village tribunals and community-based educators, awareness raising on gender-related legal instruments, enhancing coordination between formal and informal institutions, and engaging media. The grantee is one of the six commissions in the Archdiocese that aims to create a just and peaceful Malawian society. Although it is under the umbrella of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, its mission goes beyond the institutional church boundaries and is nonpolitical and nonethnic.
