About this grant
In early 2019, Foundation Center and GuideStar joined forces to become Candid. The new organization blends the leadership and staff of both organizations and maintains Foundation Center’s legal status and employer identification number. Foundation Center has been the largest source of information about philanthropy globally, and GuideStar has been the largest source of information on U.S. nonprofit organizations. General purposes support to Foundation Center has contributed to its strategic priorities, which are to: 1) connect nonprofits to the resources they need to thrive; 2) empower donors with knowledge tools to be more strategic; 3) build the global data platform for philanthropy; 4) communicate philanthropy’s contribution to making a better world; 5) encourage greater foundation transparency; and 6) ensure that technology provides a strong foundation for the grantee’s work. This grant increase will support the work of what has previously been GuideStar, which also had been receiving general purposes grant support from the Mott Foundation through 2018. That work involves collecting and maintaining data on millions of U.S. nonprofits and providing data services to thousands more, thus enhancing the sector’s transparency and allowing donors to make more informed giving decisions.
