About this grant

The project goal is to defend and promote civic space and foster a safe and enabling environment for civil society actors. To this end, the Fund for Global Human Rights — through its Enabling Environment Program — will provide grants and technical assistance to nonprofits at national, regional and global levels. This will ensure that civil society actors can thrive in the face of rising authoritarianism and the negative impacts on civic space from state and transnational counterterrorism, anti-money laundering and other security frameworks. During 2021-23, the grantee supported nonprofits in Kenya, Nigeria, the Philippines, Mexico, Guatemala and other countries through networking, research and advocacy grants. The grantee also worked closely with Funders Initiative for Civil Society to raise awareness of and strengthen funder collaboration around the threats to civic space. The Fund for Global Human Rights is a public charity based in Washington, D.C., with an office in London.
