About this grant
The project goal is to promote community philanthropy in Brazil. Over the past two years, the Institute for the Development of Social Investment has: 1) supported Brazil’s three existing community foundations; 2) created a toolkit for community foundations; 3) helped establish two new community foundations; 4) supported initiative groups in another seven locations; and 5) raised funds from Brazilian sources to support community foundations. Over the next two years, the grantee plans to: 1) support the establishment of at least six new community foundations; 2) foster a favorable enabling environment for community foundations; 3) expand the knowledge and engagement of civil society with community foundations; and 4) increase the number of national and local supporters of community foundations. Founded in 1999, the Institute for the Development of Social Investment is a philanthropy service organization that promotes private social investment and strategic philanthropy, primarily in Brazil, but also throughout Latin America, and is an affiliate of the Charities Aid Foundation Global Alliance.
