About this grant
The project goal is to expand and strengthen the community foundation field in southern Africa. To achieve this, the Southern Africa Trust will promote the community foundation concept by supporting established and emerging community foundations and other similar philanthropic organizations. In addition, the grantee will develop the capacities of new community foundations, provide small grants to emerging community foundations and initiatives, and create platforms for networking that advance the field of community foundations in the region. Since its establishment in 2005, the Southern Africa Trust has provided over $16 million in grants to civil society organizations, making it one of the leading indigenous grantmaking organizations in the region. In the past, the grantee supported community philanthropy initiatives in South Africa through Mott support. It will build on this experience to support community foundation development in the region.
