About this grant
The project goal is to support the development of community foundations in Kenya. Over the last two years, the Kenya Community Development Foundation has worked with initiative groups in 11 of Kenya’s 47 counties to support their growth. This included supporting their community engagement efforts, strengthening their leadership and governance structures, building their capacity to raise funding from local sources and connecting the initiative groups to share experiences. In addition, the groups improved their visibility through developing websites and other online platforms with the support of the Kenya Community Development Foundation. During this grant period, the grantee will focus on building the initiative groups’ grantmaking capabilities, deepening their support to existing groups, extending support to several other groups interested in becoming community foundations and participating in regional and global events focused on building community foundations. Additionally, the grantee will provide tailored support to the initiative groups to build their community leadership role. Based in Nairobi, the Kenya Community Development Foundation was established in 1997 to promote community-driven approaches to development in Kenya.
