About this grant

The project goal is to generate knowledge and evidence on the impact of community paralegals in addressing injustices in Africa. To this end, the University of the Western Cape will work with the African Centre of Excellence for Access to Justice in its first phase of research to document the environment in which community paralegals operate. The two organizations will conduct research in selected African countries where community paralegals operate, but little documentary evidence exists about the environment in which they operate. These countries are Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. The Dullah Omar Institute for Constitutional Law, Governance and Human Rights at the University of the Western Cape has extensive experience in conducting legal and social research and executing informed advocacy on justice services.
