About this grant

The project provides training for community-based paralegals in South Africa. The Dullah Omar School for Paralegalism, a project of the Social Change Assistance Trust, was launched in 2015 by a group of organizations working with community-based paralegals to provide coordinated training targeted at young paralegals to build their skills. Over the years, the school has provided accredited and nonaccredited training to community-based paralegals working in community advice offices across the country. The school has also exposed paralegals to important issues affecting the sector and created opportunities for paralegals to network and learn from one another. The grantee is a grantmaking organization that was established in 1984 to promote human rights and social justice by making grants to community-based organizations and supports programs that promote access to justice, gender equality, youth development, and local economic development. This grant will enable the Social Change Assistance Trust to implement the Dullah Omar School for Paralegalism to provide training for paralegals across the country in order to build the next generation of community-based paralegals.
