About this grant

The Alliance for the Great Lakes is a leading organization working to solve some of the Great Lakes’ biggest challenges. Founded in Chicago more than 50 years ago, the grantee has 22 staff members across the region and in Washington, D.C. With grant support from the Mott Foundation and others, they have made notable progress protecting the lakes from non-native carp and other invaders coming from ships and have helped communities with local water challenges including service shutoffs, fouled drinking water and hot spots of toxic sediments. With this grant, the grantee will execute a new strategic plan that firmly embeds justice, equity, diversity and inclusion into all aspects of their operation. The Alliance for the Great Lakes will undertake advocacy and education efforts to create and strengthen policies that provide safe, clean and accessible water for the more than 40-million residents of the Great Lakes region and ensure that the Great Lakes are protected for today and tomorrow.
