About this grant
The Casual Workers Advice Office was established in 2011 to give free legal advice to workers who have been dismissed, or face other labor violations by their employers in South Africa. Past and existing support assisted the Casual Workers Advice Office to: 1) raise awareness of new labor rights among precarious workers and support them in accessing these rights; 2) support workers whose disputes have been referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration and other bargaining councils; 3) produce resources and general educational materials; and 4) hire additional staff and train existing staff. This increase will assist the grantee to restore its offices, after it was looted and burned by xenophobic violence happening in Johannesburg.
