Community Foundation Development in Austria

About this grant

The project goal is to develop community foundations in Austria. To this end, the Austrian National Foundations Association (Verband für gemeinnütziges Stiften) will launch a ten-year program to foster a strong and vibrant community foundation movement in Austria. Through this program, the grantee will develop 50 community foundations spread throughout all federal provinces and capable of effectively addressing multiple local challenges, including income inequality, migration and climate change. During the first two years, the grantee will focus on building the capacity of the project team, publicizing the community foundation concept and supporting the most promising local initiatives to develop community foundations. The Austrian National Foundations Association was established in 2014 with the mission to strengthen the charitable foundation sector in Austria and today it has over 100 members. The grantee’s past achievements include strengthening the capacity of its members and developing policy proposals for improving the legal and fiscal environment for philanthropy in Austria.
