About this grant
The project goal is to increase the knowledge and capacity of community paralegals in South Africa. To this end, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology will continue to offer its bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies to selected community paralegals. Past support allowed the grantee to undertake a national study on the existing qualifications of community paralegals with a view to recognize the qualifications. The grantee also undertook preparations to ensure that community paralegals would successfully complete this degree. These included developing a mixed model of learning pedagogy, developing materials and facilitating staff workshops to help understand the nature and circumstances of community paralegals. Ongoing support will assist community paralegals from across South Africa to access the blended model of learning to obtain this qualification. The Cape Peninsula University of Technology is the largest technical university in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.
