About this grant
How sub-Saharan African countries like Tanzania meet the energy needs of their young, fast-growing and rapidly urbanizing population will significantly determine outcomes on solving global climate change. E-LICO Foundation is a Tanzanian nonprofit that works with rural communities to co-design and implement off-grid renewable energy initiatives which create jobs, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. Over the past two years, the grantee has established an organizational framework that has piloted several innovative solutions for accelerated access to off-grid renewable energy services for productive use which lower carbon emissions that cause climate change, while improving community livelihoods in the rural Tanzanian regions of Dodoma and Iringa. Within the next two years, E-LICO will replicate and scale up the most impactful and proven off-grid renewable energy solutions, while also strengthening its organizational capacity, partnerships, and outreach. This is expected to establish a model for rural off-grid renewable energy access, which can be expanded nationally and internationally.
