About this grant

American Rivers is a national organization whose mission is to protect wild rivers, restore damaged rivers and conserve clean water for people and nature, and has long prioritized the importance of the rivers of the Great Lakes region. With previous support from the Mott Foundation, the grantee has been actively working on water quality issues with an emphasis on green infrastructure especially in disadvantaged communities. The grantee has been able to establish an effective network of local water leaders and increase the capacity of local governments in the Great Lakes’ basin to utilize green infrastructure funding. With renewed support, American Rivers will build on their previous work in the region to engage on the equitable distribution of historic levels of federal infrastructure funds in Great Lakes states that result in clean water for people and the region’s waterways.
