About this grant
Great Lakes Now is an initiative of Detroit Public Television that provides communities and residents with accessible, important news and information related to the health of the lakes, including water quality. The 40 million residents of the Great Lakes watershed are blessed with an abundance of fresh water and share an affinity for the lakes, but many are unaware of how the lakes are changing, nor of the impacts of their actions and choices on the health of the lakes. With a potential reach of 20 million viewers and a diverse and deeply invested audience, Great Lakes Now has the unique potential to raise awareness of water issues and inspire residents to value and protect this vital natural resource. With support from the Mott Foundation, the grantee will devote increased reporting capacity to cover more drinking water content. Detroit Public Television will also provide support to a partner station and will host a convening of Great Lakes journalists.
