About this grant

The project goal is to increase access to justice for poor and marginalized people in Kenya. To this end, Kituo Cha Sheria Legal Advice Centre will work with a network of community paralegals to provide access to justice services, undertake strategic litigation, research relevant areas of justice provision and legal empowerment, monitor the implementation of alternative justice systems, and participate in regional and continental efforts to promote access to justice. Past grant support helped the grantee to ensure that Kenya includes two access to justice goals within its Open Government Partnership Action Plan, participate in activities of the African Centre of Excellence for Access to Justice, and provide justice services to poor and marginalized people in Kenya through the COVID-19 pandemic. With 48 years of experience, it provides justice services and addresses systemic injustices in Kenya, East Africa and Africa as a whole and is Kenya and East Africa’s oldest justice and legal empowerment organization.
