About this grant
The Social Justice Initiative was established in 2013 to create awareness of the importance of social justice causes in South Africa. The grantee partners with philanthropists and civil society organizations to raise funds and support fair access to constitutional rights, better delivery of services and a stronger democracy. Past support enabled the grantee to unlock over $5 million from wealthy South Africans to support 80 social justice organizations and causes. In addition, the grantee generated interest and support for social justice programs from the private sector. This grant increase will enable the Social Justice Initiative to make grants to organizations dealing with social justice issues resulting from COVID-19 responses in South Africa.
