About this grant
The Black Sash Trust was founded in 1955 by a group of women who were fighting for the recognition of human rights for all in South Africa. The grantee’s aim is to contribute to the creation of a society that has effective laws and comprehensive social protection for the most vulnerable. Past and existing support assisted the grantee to successfully launch and execute initiatives based on systemic injustices faced by communities that needed help from community advice offices. Initiatives included the extension of social security to children up to 18 years, equalizing the pensionable age for men and women to 60 years, and more recently, the Hands Off Our Grants initiative. This grant increase will assist the Black Sash Trust to provide additional monitoring and support to document rights violations and successes in the execution of a COVID-19 relief grant by the South African Government.
