About this grant
Franciscan Solidarity Service is a Catholic association in Brazil that began working in 2018 on strategies to protect environmental social defenders living and working in the Brazilian rainforest. Over the past grant period, the grantee participated in the Life by a Thread campaign in three Brazilian Amazon regions under strong threat from deforestation and large-scale energy and infrastructure development. Franciscan Solidarity Service will — over the next grant period — make progress on developing community-based security protocols and expand the capacity of traditional and Indigenous community funds to ensure resources for protection programs.
