About this grant
For more than 40 years, the Indian Law Resource Center has been an important voice for indigenous peoples in the Americas and a source of legal expertise to improve policies, practices and accountability at national and international development finance institutions. Over the prior grant period, the grantee successfully advanced social and environmental safeguard review and implementation by the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank. Major achievements include convincing the banks to apply whichever legal and policy standards — domestic or international — provide the best protections to indigenous peoples and the environment. Over the next grant period, the Indian Law Resource Center will build evidence to improve scrutiny and accountability of the banks, strengthen capacities to ensure full and proper implementation of environmental and social policy standards and harmonize new bank standards to best international practices.
