About this grant

The Puerto Rico Community Foundation plans to establish a permanent institution, the Racial Equity Building Institute for the Americas, which will create synergy between local, regional and national movements in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. The grantee will also strengthen relationships among local leaders, funders, nonprofits, universities and corporations who are leading research and action around racial equity and justice. This grant will support the following outcomes: 1) mapping the landscape of Afro-descendant communities and anti-Black racism organizations, eventually plotting their corresponding communities in the United States; 2) identifying and building an initial leadership network, comprised of prominent funders, researchers and community leaders; and 3) building a strong infrastructure for the institute, ensuring that it is set up for success and impact over the next five to ten years. Founded in 1985, the Puerto Rico Community Foundation promotes and strengthens social justice and equitable access to community resources on the island of Puerto Rico.
