About this grant
We the People of Detroit is an important environmental justice group working on water policy issues in Michigan and nationally. Founded by five women leaders, the grantee has responded to water shutoffs, high residential water rates and pollution crises in their hometown and beyond. Support from Mott will help the grantee manage its rapid growth through strategic and succession planning. One of the grantee’s aims is to encourage youth to become more involved in their communities and take a more active interest in how they interact with water resources today and can impact water policy in the future. We the People of Detroit, therefore, will also use Mott funds to help launch a camp for urban youth in Idlewild, Michigan that will encourage careers in water science and stewardship.
