About this grant

Service Year Alliance, based in Washington, DC, works to make a year of paid, full-time service an opportunity for all young Americans by expanding partnerships and awareness, shared recruitment efforts and lifting up the impacts of service. During the previous grant period, Service Year Alliance advanced place-based national service initiatives by convening more than 35 communities to highlight and learn from the Flint National Service Accelerator model and executed a challenge grant opportunity for four communities to expand their models and create funder partnerships. This grant will provide for individual and group collaboration support for place-based national service initiatives from around the country—including the Flint National Service Accelerator—to identify barriers to service, build stronger community relationships and disseminate lessons for the improvement of the national service field. Lessons learned from these pioneering place-based national service initiatives will empower communities to adopt initiatives of their own to generate a culture of service, address community-defined needs, grow local talent and develop cross-sector partners in the case making for greater investment in national service opportunities.
