About this grant
Community foundations have been at the core of the Council on Foundations, a national philanthropic organization that currently represents 760 members, since its founding in 1949. The grantee’s mission is to foster an environment where philanthropy can thrive and cultivate a community of diverse and skilled philanthropic professionals. At present, roughly 40% of U.S. community foundations are members of the grantee and roughly two-thirds are accredited by the Community Foundation National Standards Board, a supporting organization of the Council on Foundations. In order to advance a healthy policy environment for philanthropy and to advance local-level engagement with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, over the next three years the grantee will strengthen its work and support of community foundations through four areas of specialized engagement: leading on public policy, enhancing National Standards, expanding its community foundation reach and building community through the Sustainable Development Goals.
