About this grant
The project goal is to promote the community-led implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. To this end in 2018, the Center for Sustainable Development at the Brookings Institution established the Local Leadership on the Sustainable Development Goals initiative. This effort entailed supporting community foundations, businesses, universities and other local institutions in adapting and advancing the goals locally; hosting private roundtables and public events to showcase innovations; and building a set of resources and tools to support current and future implementation of the goals on a local level. Over the next two years, the Brookings Institution’s Center for Sustainable Development plans to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals for community foundations in various philanthropic media and event spaces, strengthen the emerging ecosystem of community foundation leadership on the goals and help adapt a 17 Rooms-X process model of engaging on the goals for use by community foundations.
