About this grant
The Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission works with tribal governments in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota to protect tribal interests in the ecology of ceded territories in the northern portions of those states. With previous Mott support, the Commission identified the tools and information needed to be effective participants in mine permitting and environmental review processes, including baseline data collection and improved wetland mapping. With renewed support, the Commission will continue to participate fully on water quality issues and ecosystem protection, while also cultivating the next generation of leaders through an internship program to expose students to careers in natural resource management and tribal culture.
