About this grant
The Accountability Research Center at American University aims to improve the social and environmental outcomes of development finance institutions by holding those institutions accountable to their own commitments for engaging affected communities. With Mott Foundation support, the grantee will collaborate with organizations in developing countries to monitor projects and assess whether and how the World Bank and, more recently, the Inter-American Development Bank, deliver in practice on commitments to transparency, participation, sustainability and accountability. Through its leadership of the Citizen Engagement Working Group, a dialogue space between World Bank officials and civil society organizations, the Accountability Research Center at American University will leverage its research by reporting back to policymakers within the banks, and by sharing information and coordinating with civil society partners working toward the same goal.
