About this grant

The program goal is to support the emergence and strengthening of community foundations in Latin America. Grand Valley State University’s Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy proposes to conduct research aimed at trying to understand and explain the engagement of Latin American families in place-based philanthropy and especially in community foundations. The research methodology will consist of a literature review and a field scan, an estimated 40 in-depth qualitative interviews and the development of mini-case studies. Other deliverables will include a primary report, a recommendation and best practices summary and dissemination events and dialogues. This project will focus on Mexico, as it is seen as the first phase of a broader, multiyear research effort to cover several countries in Latin America. Established in 1992, the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy is an academic center within the College of Community and Public Service at Grand Valley State University.
