About this grant

Loughborough University — a recognized institution of higher learning in the United Kingdom — supports the Alliance of Civil Society Organizations for Clean Energy Access, which aims to coordinate action by civil society organizations working to deliver universal energy access. With prior Mott Foundation funding, the coalition successfully increased civil society participation and collaboration with the African Development Bank and the World Bank Group. This grant will allow the grantee to support the coalition as it strengthens its ability to convene and lead African civil society efforts to guide national and regional development finance institutions away from fossil fuels and towards distributed renewable energy solutions. Loughborough University will support the coalition to complete its transition to an independent, international organization based in Kenya, strengthen its operational effectiveness and build its capacity to offer technical support to its members. Critically, the coalition will support regional evidence-based advocacy aimed at increasing investment for energy access and ensuring community participation in energy project planning and implementation.
