About this grant
The program goal is to promote a better understanding of democracy and the importance of civic engagement in the United States. The Associated Press — through the Democracy Initiative — plans to advance election integrity and trust in the system, work with local media to build common ground in their communities and address mis- and disinformation. As a factual, independent and nonpartisan organization with credibility across many constituencies, the grantee will improve civic literacy through deepening its explanatory journalism and assisting smaller newsrooms across the U.S. Founded in 1864, the Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting.
