About this grant

This grant increase will support and expand the field of community foundations in Mexico. Comunalia is an alliance of Mexican community foundations that focuses on local development and strategic social investment. Founded in 2011, the grantee currently has 17 members and six associated groups. The grantee’s activities include: 1) annual surveying of financial and operating characteristics and capacity-building needs; 2) webinars and workshops on issues of common interest; 3) implementation assistance for programming related to community resilience, the Sustainable Development Goals, giving circles and youth philanthropy; 4) technical assistance and training for legal and fiscal compliance, strengthening governance, fundraising, donor relations and other managerial challenges; 5) networking and peer learning support; 6) challenge grants to stimulate local and national giving; and 7) support to newly emerging community foundations in Mexico. This grant increase will provide support for a visit of civic and community leaders from Argentina that will share findings and reflect on key learnings of Comunalia’s experiences in community philanthropy. The Argentinian group will visit four Mexican community foundations and participate in a gathering of community foundations from South and North America in Guadalajara.
