Michigan Spark Grant Partnership

The Council of Michigan Foundations leads, strengthens and supports Michigan’s philanthropy community, grounded in a shared commitment to center equity in grantmaking. This grant from the Mott Foundation will support a new partnership between the Department of Natural Resources and Michigan philanthropy to equitably distribute Michigan Spark grants. The Spark grant program was launched to increase the quantity and improve the quality of outdoor spaces in communities where they are lacking. The Council of Michigan Foundations, on behalf of its members, will administer up to $27.5 million and additional private sector support to create or restore public outdoor recreation facilities, increase access to greenspace and develop programming for historically under-funded, low-capacity communities that have limited resources.
