About this grant

Founded in 1990, Native Americans in Philanthropy promotes effective and equitable philanthropy in Native communities and is dedicated to connecting philanthropy, federal agencies and Tribal Nations to distribute funding and resources directly to Tribal Nations. A newly created Tribal Nations Conservation Pledge and Funding Collaborative seeks to address the negative impacts of climate change and other threats to the nation’s lands and waterways that disproportionately affect Indigenous peoples. The Pledge and Fund help Tribes gain critical resources to overcome barriers and implement projects using their traditional ecological knowledge to protect and conserve natural resources. This grant from the Mott Foundation will support an assessment and planning in the Great Lakes region to build capacity, provide technical assistance and align funding opportunities for Great Lakes Tribes. Funds regranted to Great Lakes Tribes will leverage resources for projects to protect freshwater ecosystems in the basin on Tribal lands or ceded territories while also protecting the vulnerable people who live there.
