About this grant

The project goal is to enhance the capacity of a coalition of Latin American organizations to advocate for human rights in digital environments in Latin America. The Al Sur Coalition is composed of 11 leading Latin American organizations that coordinate responses to threats and advocate at national, regional and global forums for the promotion of human rights, in particular freedom of expression and privacy, in their relation to digital environments. Project activities will include documentation of threats and abuses, joint reports to authorities, capacity enhancement and sustained advocacy in relevant forums. Founded in 2005 in Chile, Derechos Digitales is an independent, nonprofit organization that works throughout Latin America. Its main objective is developing, defending and promoting human rights in the digital sphere. Derechos Digitales is both a core participant and the fiscal sponsor for the Al Sur Coalition.
