About this grant
The project goal is to defend and promote civic space and foster a safe and enabling environment for civil society actors. To achieve this, the Defenders Coalition will safeguard the work of civil society organizations and human rights defenders working in the frontlines of the rule of law, transparency and corruption by building their capacity and producing research regarding civic space in Kenya. This work will enable these actors to respond to and mitigate any safety and security risks they face. The grantee will convene activists to build solidarity and encourage collective action, conduct strategic capacity strengthening in response to emerging challenges for human rights defenders in the country, and build evidence on the extent and types of human rights violations and their impact on civic space. Defenders Coalition is a nonprofit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya. It strengthens the capacity of civil society actors and human rights defenders to work effectively and reduce their vulnerability to the risk of persecution.
