About this grant

Amazon Conservation Team has been working with traditional communities in the Colombian and Peruvian Amazon to improve the quality of life for communities, promote the protection of isolated Indigenous peoples and implement solar energy solutions. Past grant efforts made progress toward expanding renewable energy access to isolated communities, strengthening local governance and management capacity, providing opportunities for social development and contributing to the livelihoods of vulnerable communities. Over the next grant period, the grantee will continue to establish sustainable local renewable energy systems in remote areas, focusing on Colombia’s middle and lower Caquetá and Putumayo Rivers and in Peru’s Pupuña and Atacuari Indigenous reserves, providing them with solar-powered lighting and cell phone charging solutions. Additionally, the project aims to protect isolated Indigenous peoples by installing solar energy systems in prioritized surveillance posts.
