About this grant
Heifer Project International is an international development nonprofit organization that has been operating in Uganda since 1982. During this time, the grantee has enabled nearly 1 million farmer households across Uganda to increase their incomes, realize decent livelihoods and bolster their resilience to shocks, including those caused by global climate change. Both agriculture and energy sectors account for nearly 70% of annual carbon emissions in Uganda and provide excellent opportunities for addressing climate change. The project will advance access to solar skills, jobs and entrepreneurship development opportunities for underserved entrepreneurs across Uganda’s dairy sector value chains. The project will also expand access to affordable financial services for the productive use of solar energy solutions among disadvantaged farmers, dairy cooperatives and other value-chain participants. In addition, the project will strengthen the capacity and coordination among key agricultural and solar energy stakeholders by establishing a well-governed and self-sustaining hub organization in Uganda.
