About this grant
Older coal-fired powerplants are being retired across the country, including in Michigan. The Environmental Law and Policy Center, a regional environmental group based in Chicago, sees an opportunity to transform these Michigan sites by reusing some of the land for parks and recreation and some of the land and existing infrastructure for new renewable energy generation. With support from the Mott Foundation, the grantee and partner groups will engage community leaders and other stakeholders to assess the viability of and support for the project.
