About this grant

The Nonprofit Enterprise and Self-Sustainability Team, Inc. promotes the growth of resilient small businesses, associations and cooperatives. Since 2020, the grantee has been supporting community-led sustainable economic ventures in the Amazon. During the previous grant period, the grantee conducted in-depth research and formulated insights from existing forest enterprises. Using these findings, they developed policy recommendations specifically tailored for development finance institutions to secure their support for low-impact, forest-based economic activities led by local Amazon communities. With renewed Mott Foundation support, the grantee will expand the reach of the recommendations to a wider audience within the development finance sector and foster meaningful dialogue and partnership between local communities and development finance stakeholders. This grant provides funding to an organization focused on establishing the bioeconomy as a significant investment sector and to ensure that investments are available in a way that effectively supports community-driven forest economies while contributing to forest conservation.
