About this grant
The Nonprofit Enterprise and Self-Sustainability Team, Inc. promotes the growth of resilient small businesses, associations and cooperatives. Since 2020, the grantee has been supporting community-led sustainable economic ventures in the Amazon. During the previous grant period, the grantee conducted in-depth research and formulated insights from existing forest enterprises. Using these findings, they developed policy recommendations specifically tailored for development finance institutions to secure their support for low-impact, forest-based economic activities led by local Amazon communities. With renewed support, the grantee will expand the reach of the recommendations to a wider audience within the development finance sector and foster meaningful dialogue and partnership between local communities and development finance stakeholders. The project aims to establish the bioeconomy as a significant investment sector and to ensure that investments are available in a way that effectively supports community-driven forest economies while contributing to forest conservation.
