This grant will allow the Afterschool Alliance to continue its efforts to ensure that young people and families—particularly those in underserved populations—will have access to engaging afterschool and summer learning and enrichment opportunities that inspire achievement in school and life. The grantee is playing a pivotal role in responding to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, serves as a critical voice and organizer of the field, works with federal policymakers to advance opportunities for afterschool and summer learning programs and ensures that the field’s lessons inform national education and youth policy initiatives. The grantee will continue to: 1) lead the field in meeting the needs of young people during the pandemic; 2) serve as an information source on afterschool programs and resource for policymakers, programs and educators; 3) be an effective voice in its efforts to expand quality afterschool programs and innovative models; and 4) increase access to research and data on the effectiveness of quality afterschool programs. The Afterschool Alliance will also work with the 50 statewide afterschool networks to support state-level afterschool initiatives and support the further development and implementation of the Mizzen by Mott App.
