About this grant
During the past decade, Russian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) worked hard to gain recognition from the state and to establish cooperation among NGOs and the authorities. Currently, among journalists, politicians and officials, there is a need for reliable and timely information about the Russian nonprofit sector. In addition, NGOs themselves need to understand more fully sector developments, particularly in the thematic areas in which they work.Multiyear funding will enable the Agency for Social Information (ASI) to promote NGOs by informing the media, businesses, officials and NGOs themselves of the latest developments in the Russian nonprofit sector; contribute to further cooperation between NGOs and the state, as well as among various NGOs; and strengthen the ASI network. In addition to daily news, ASI will provide information through a variety of mediums, including its Web site.ASI, founded in 1994, is the leading information provider on the nonprofit sector in Russia. It has 28 affiliates throughout the country who regularly submit information about NGO activities, social issues and civic initiatives.
