About this grant
The Fund for Innovation, Effectiveness, Learning and Dissemination (FIELD) has established itself as a research and development fund. In four years, FIELD has built up the U.S. micro-enterprise field through seeding innovations, documenting and disseminating lessons learned and informing federal policy, and helping top performing programs access additional funding.Funding will support the development of a theory on the evolution and future direction of micro-enterprise by synthesizing the quantitative and qualitative data from all the research areas previously studied. The results will be disseminated nationally. In addition, funding will support the dissemination of promising practices in training and technical assistance. Finally, funding will enable research to commence on the U.S. underground economy and informal businesses.Recent accomplishments included investing $3 million in 33 projects designed to test innovations and support research in key areas; documenting lessons learned and disseminating them through print, Web, audio and training formats; helping to leverage at least $15 million in financial support for micro-enterprise practitioners; and developing and promoting MicroTest, the first performance standards and database in the micro-enterprise field.
