About this grant

The program goal is to promote regional cooperation among journalists that results in more accurate and objective analysis of political, social, and economic developments in the Balkan region. The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network is the regional coordination center for a network of five independent media organizations and various editors, journalists, and trainers across the Balkans. The network is dedicated to creating professional, independent media in Southeast Europe as an essential component of developing democracy and a market economy in the region. The grantee and network members work together to analyze key transition issues for the public and policymakers, publish weekly reports, and organize training events and public debates. In 2014-2015, the grantee annually trained over 100 local journalists; produced more than 4,300 articles and analyses which were disseminated on its Web site and through printed materials; maintained special focus pages on its Web site targeting key regional issues, such as transitional justice; and organized its eighth annual fellowship and fifth annual summer program for investigative journalists. The grantee is based in Sarajevo, and the network includes member organizations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Serbia.
