About this grant

Multilateral development banks, and particularly the World Bank, have traditionally played a central role in formulating development policy and continue to be the dominant standard setters in international finance and investment. International development finance is changing, however, with the emergence of new national development banks, such as those in Brazil and China, which lag behind their international counterparts in terms of transparency, governance, and environmental and social protection policies. The Bank Information Center supports developing country organizations in their efforts to strengthen standards, particularly at the World Bank, and increasingly at national development banks. This grant increase will enable the grantee to conduct a strategic planning process to meet the new challenges in development finance, as well as to participate in technical cooperation with nongovernmental organizations in Brazil and South America.
