About this grant
In 1997, the Belarusian Association of Social Workers opened a Bureau of Social Information to provide guidance to citizens in the capital of Minsk about their rights and entitlements to social services. The project employed the model of citizens’ advice bureaus (CABs).Multiyear funding will enable the association to continue developing its capacity as a resource center for Belarusian CABs in order to improve the quality of service. Activities will include visiting the central office of the National Association of Citizens’ Advice Bureaus in Great Britain; organizing training for staff and Belarusian CABs by the Polish Association for Citizen Advice Bureaus; updating and distributing software, databases and informational systems to CABs; facilitating networking of existing CABs; and assisting in the creation of seven new CABs.Recent accomplishments included developing user-friendly software; initiating a network in Belarus made up of seven CABs; and establishing a resource center to provide support to the CABs.
