About this grant

For the past two summers, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint (BGC) has provided a 10-week Summer Fun Program involving hundreds of area youth. The program has experienced rapid growth, expanding from an average of 70 youth served per day in 2004 to an average of 140 in 2005, with attendance spikes sometimes resulting in service to 200 students per day. This grant will support the growth of the Summer Fun Program by providing extra staffing in order to pilot morning programs and increase the number of youth who can be served on a daily basis. The mission of BGC, established in 1998, is to provide a safe space to learn and grow for young people of all backgrounds, with special concern for those from disadvantaged circumstances. It also helps youth develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and community leaders.
