About this grant
The Buckham Fine Arts Project, more commonly known as Buckham Gallery, is dedicated to enhancing and enriching the cultural life of central Flint. Gallery artists work closely with such organizations as the Downtown Small Business Association and the Greater Flint Arts Council to present activities that will bring area residents downtown. Multiyear funding will enable the gallery to initiate events such as an annual "Affordable Art" exhibition of moderately priced works by gallery artists; a "No Losers" raffle; and a lunch-time "Brown Bag Browse" presentation on the closing Friday of every exhibition. It will also enable the gallery to publish a newsletter; expand gallery hours; and install a street-level window video exhibition of the current display. The Buckham Fine Arts Project, a nonprofit organizations, was incorporated in 1984 by a group of area artists who saw the need for an exhibition/performance venue in downtown Flint to enrich and enhance the cultural life of Flint and mid-Michigan residents. Since its inception, the gallery has offered more than 200 exhibitions of visual art, poetry readings, performance art events, and dance, music and film presentations.
